I am a big fan and enjoyed the Discworld “Making Money”, which is a continuation of “Going Postal”, but I could not quite shake the feeling that Terry Pratchett by automatic payment, or has been wrote a golem to write it. All characters right, including some like death — in cameo roles, and others like Lord Vetinari, seeing almost (a little of Ankh-Morpork, the mansion goes a long way). This is well down and beat people down with jokes-scale, more or Pune puns.

But a novel of Discworld, “Making Money” is missing Pratchett usual shoot-from-the-hip-and-mouth disease and other original, the body parts. Maybe wet Lipwig, former Minister Post and current store to the Mint, is too low, a sign for the weight of the Discworld novels based on two shoulders had. Maybe his antics at the Mint to be similar to his antics mission.

Or maybe it’s because I can not stand his girlfriend, Adora Belle — Gladys the Golem has a nicer personality. Heck the villain, Cosmo Lavish has a nicer personality, which is a book of these problems. We do not have a villain we can really hate. I spent the last half of the novel to worry about whether Cosmo’s thumb would disappear if he /> unable to replace at the helm Patrician Ankh-Morpork’s dirty.

type of death of Discworld novels. Rating: 5.4

It seems, after reading the Discworld of Terry Pratchett’s latest novel “Making Money” that money makes the world go ’round, even if the flat world balanced on the backs of four elephants standing on the back a giant turtle.

In “Making Money, Terry Pratchett and his” heroes “Lipwig Moist and just the monetary system, and which has the e-mail in “Going Postal”. The result is the same vent – - – - a Buster Keaton, as through the weird and wonderful world of Discworld.

It is impossible, the plot of this book without revealing spoilers show, so I better just say that Lord Vetinari determined that the monetary system in Ankh-Morpork and Dire Straits better place. Vetinari takes, in his inimitable way of Moist Lipwig of the track. wetland is mainly implemented by Vetinari Greenspan became Ankh-Morpork, Alan Greenspan. In contrast, however, dampened with a gallery of characters who have no idea what to try to do too or wet. (Well, maybe not so different from Greenspan!).

“Making Money” feature a cast of old but mostly new characters created. As a sign, Vetinari is featured and will be more enjoyable than ever Machiavellian. There are cameo performances by death, the clock and snapper CMOT. However, new or newer characters play a role. Moist second appearance is terrific. Pratchett has a very nice job turning it into what I hope is a regular role. Moist girlfriend chain-smoking Adore Belle Dearheart make their presence felt. Mr. Bent, who is oh-so-serious director of the bank, the person con very wet character-hearted man. Bent is the former – where the money is based on must be bound and gold anything other than gold. There is something very William Jennings Bryan-like Bent and his straight-laced is the perfect complement to the approach extremely flexible moisture monetary issues. Moist family antagonists are lavish and sumptuous Cosmo sister Pucci large enough (of which a major online Pratchett said: “She had no idea how to deal with people and they tried to make self-esteem The work of self-esteem, but the girl could better steering a large turkey on a trampoline. “), you are good films for wet and Vetinari. /> />

“Making Money” is a pleasant book to read for me. It was typical Pratchett (praise) and I think most of Pratchett fans will enjoy. I did.

  3. James D. DeWitt Says:

The post office is an easy target for a gifted satirist Pratchett, the macro-economy is much more difficult. Pratchett manages to make but in the whole “Making Money” ranks in the middle third of Pratchett’s writing.

Moist Lipwig the confidence of the people, and Ankh Morpork Post Master Trickster’s boredom, of course. And if he gets bored, he takes terrible risks. In many respects, it is how it feels alive. The tyrant Ankh Morpork, the Patrician, Lord Vetinari recognizes this fact and manipulate people and circumstances so wet the tip of the largest bank in town, with a goal of monetary reform. Well, not the current president, the effective head of the bank is a small dog with a taste of caramel.

Moist to shareholders must overcome old family – the clan Lavish completely dysfunctional – and the staff cut, its eventful past come to haunt him and missing gold bullion. Moist mastered more Pratchett. As a novel, Making Money “is more episodic than it was” Going Postal “and the conclusion is weaker.” Money “has its moments, and you burst into laughter once more. But as history It is not as strong as, for example, tens Pratchett last fifty years. In particular, Pratchett does not pull all the son of the plot with his usual skill.

; And it is extremely difficult to make the economy should be fun. Moist instructions to Lord Vetinari of Ankh Morpork citizens suspects are known to accept paper money in order to liberate the town from the gold standard. In hand it is almost impossible to make funny on another, it is almost impossible, because his satirical parodies were equally effective. Pratchett gets a nod for the attempt. The “dismal science”, to quote Carlyle could use a little humor.

But even a below-Pratchett novel is a delight, and “money” is a joy. It’s just not outstanding.

By my calculations, which is easily accessible from the Amazon, this is 31 title series of Discworld Pratchett. With its publication, Going Postal: a novel of Discworld graduates of the book independently of the first number of “Moist Lipwig part” (this book in the series second part). Unfortunately, the bear to school is not presented. Reasons, “Going Postal” was very good, “Making Money” is just OK. Yes, the parodies funny. Unfortunately, the main character, Moist Lipwig is not really the driving force behind the growth field: it seems that for the trip. The first part of the book is very good. Moisture is the foreground and appears to move forward. But shortly after he moved to the bank, he turns just stupid (especially given what he has to live forever with the Post Master General) and the right book readers. In fact, I put the book for a few days because I was so excited in this regard. Finally, in the end it seems once again become herself. But the resolution has been significantly transformed into a “miracle” moment. I do not know what has happened Pratchett about this book. But really, I do not see the point in it. It is really not seem to have his usual effort put into action, developing the characters.

If you want to get the book in the library, do you go to one. But do not expect first material Pratchett. The best I can rate OK is a 3 star hotel 5

  5. Jonathan A. Turner Says:

Average Terry Pratchett is over 90% on everything else. _Making Money_ is not unusual, inspiring standards of Pratchett, but it is funny, absorbing, and thought. His mistake may be that there is a little too tried many other things.

_Making Money_ has many plot elements, not all of which connect. * * We have two “rogue” and a follower and humid is the search for a master engraver and the lack of gold Gloop AND AND Miss Dearheart the golems and the staff and mint. . . These conflicts are generally resolved individually, instead of coming together at the climax. Yes winning the right to ex machina_ _deus last because of last minute with a number of terribly practical evidence – not really, not combined because of something wet.

But the tell the truth, I did not much care. _Making Money_ is a journey, but as a goal, but what a trip! There are several laugh out loud moments, and there are marginal notes very interesting, exactly what the money *. * If the book is like a series of vignettes, at least, they are fabulous vignettes.
